I recently heard some person phone in C-SPAN claiming that not supporting Bush makes U.S. citizens "look idiotic." That is, she gave the old "support the president no matter what" argument. But wait! I thought the U.S. is supposed to be a free country where citizens have the right to CRITIZE THEIR GOVERNMENT. After all, many of those who say we should support Bush no matter what constantly critized Clinton when he was president. But if it's true that U.S. citizens should support the preseident no matter what, then that must mean it applies to other nationalities as well. For example, if Germans didn't support Adolf Hitler, that would make them look like idiots. Or if Iraqis didn't support Saddam Hussein, that would make them look like idiots. Or if North Koreans didn't support Kim Jung Il, that would make them look like idiots. NO!! Politcal leaders as just as imperfect as the rest of us slobs. Therefore they need to be made aware of any mistakes they're making. Following leaders blindly is what often causes bloody dictaorships, so why shold freedom-loving Americans do that sort of thing?
Yeah, yeah, yeah! Folks have the right to believe in that "support the president no matter what" nonsense. But at the same time, the right to reject that nonsense also exists. Therefore, I'm going to keep rejecting it.
